Responsibilities:
Damascus Equine Associates is a uniquely collaborative group of five independent equine veterinary practices that have worked together for over 40 years. We share emergency coverage, case consultations, and professional support, creating a truly collegial and enriching work environment.
We are currently seeking an associate veterinarian to join our individual practice and help grow our team to eight equine veterinarians. Our practice serves a high-density equine population, and we pride ourselves on providing high-quality care to both performance and pleasure horses.
As an official FEI veterinarian for Eventing and a USEF testing veterinarian, I welcome the opportunity to mentor someone interested in developing expertise in FEI and USEF work. This role is ideal for a motivated veterinarian who values mentorship, collaboration, and professional growth.
We work closely with both an equine internal medicine specialist and an equine ophthalmologist who see cases through our outpatient clinic. We also maintain strong referral relationships with regional university hospitals located within a two-hour drive.
Our practice culture prioritizes mentorship and continuous learning. Weekly morning meetings offer time to:
- Discuss active and interesting cases
- Review radiographs, ultrasounds, and endoscopy findings
- Read and evaluate journal articles
- Host guest speakers on special topics
Work-life balance is a shared priority. Emergency coverage is distributed equitably, taking into account individual practice caseloads.
Our current rotation includes:
- One night per week
- One weekend every six weeks
- One major holiday per year
These responsibilities will further decrease as our team grows.
