At Cambria Veterinary Care, we are deeply invested in fostering the next generation of veterinary professionals by providing real-world exposure to a truly mixed animal practice. Located in west-central Pennsylvania, our rapidly growing clinic serves a diverse range of species, including small animals, exotic pets, equine, and food and farm animals. As an extern, you’ll gain hands-on experience across many facets of veterinary medicine. Our passionate and professional team, dedicated to the health and well-being of every patient, will provide the mentorship and guidance you need to develop the skills, confidence, and expertise to excel in this rewarding and challenging field as well as support and enrich your veterinary education. We are dedicated to contributing to your practice-readiness to help you hit the ground running after graduation.
As an extern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various disciplines of veterinary medicine including spay and neuter surgery, small, exotic, or large animal care, or mixed animal care both in the clinic and out in the field. Under the supervision and guidance of our experienced veterinary team, externs will participate in patient care, develop clinical diagnostic abilities, assist in the management of medical cases when applicable, further polish technical skills, produce appropriate medical records, and gain valuable insight into client communication.
Our program offers both short and long term externship assignments ranging from 2 to 12 weeks. Externs are expected to work a minimum of 20 to 30 hours per week dependent on both the students availability and the practice's caseload. Although it is not a requirement, externships can be completed for academic credit. Externs must follow the practice's dress code in accordance with their externship focus. On-site housing may be available to externs.

Enrolled in an accredited DVM program | Obtain professional liability insurance (AVMA PLIT liability insurance is free for all student members of the AVMA) | Authorized to work in the United States | Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment | Demonstrate strong communication skills | Possess the physical capability to assist with both small and large animals
