Responsibilities:
Internship-trained or experienced emergency doctors wanted at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS). OSVS is a large and busy 24 hour emergency and specialty referral center located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, in the heart of southern New England. We offer referral and emergency services to RI, eastern CT and southern MA. There is no general practice associated with the hospital. Equipment includes digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, laparoscopy, mechanical ventilation, telemetry, fluoroscopy, and state-of-the-art monitoring equipment. The staff includes specialists in internal medicine, surgery, radiology, emergency/critical care, cardiology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology and avian/exotics, as well as a large group of experienced emergency clinicians. Bay State Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Services (BSVESS) is currently a small ER/specialty hospital in Swansea, MA – but we are currently renovating a 36,000sf building which should open in the summer of 2024. The current facility offers full time surgery, internal medicine, and emergency services. The plans for the new building include expanding our specialty services to include radiology, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, and exotic pet medicine. There will be a linear accelerator and a CT scanner, so medical, surgical, and radiation oncology will be a significant focus of the hospital. This opportunity is ideal for someone who wants to join a young team of specialists and ER doctors and help to grow the hospital while being a part of the development of a positive work culture.

Additional Comments:
The hospital places a premium on continuing education. Daily case rounds provide an opportunity for continuous learning. We have in-house education for doctors and technicians, and host referring veterinarians for continuing education forums several times a year. We have a very well-respected internship as well as emergency/critical care and surgery residencies, which help to promote a didactic atmosphere and gives the emergency clinicians and specialists ample opportunity to teach others. The support staff is highly trained and enthusiastic about continuing education as well. The technicians working in the intensive care unit are capable of managing most nursing cases, including those on mechanical ventilation, peritoneal dialysis, continuous thoracic drainage, etc. This position offers emergency clinicians a unique opportunity to work in a well-equipped, state-of-the-art facility, side-by-side with a large group of specialists. The emergency doctors do not just work evenings and weekends, they work many weekday inpatient shifts as well, giving them the opportunity to manage critical care patients and benefit from the referral hospital environment. The desire to continue learning and to participate in the teaching of interns and student externs is very important, and a good sense of humor is essential! The opportunity to split time between the RI hospital and our satellite facility in Massachusetts is also available. The clinics are only 20 minutes apart. The environment at OSVS is very supportive. Inpatient shifts start with sit-down rounds, where we discuss all of the patients on the emergency service. ER clinicians who have been with us for 10 years tell us that they still learn every day that they work here. Despite having grown to a staff of over 50 doctors, the hospital still has a family feel, and our people know that we care about them.
