Responsibilities:
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The role entails providing professional veterinary expertise in the field of regulatory medicine for thoroughbred and/or standardbred racetracks. In addition to this, the position oversees all activities related to the test barn, ensuring the proper collection and processing of blood and urine samples, as well as maintaining accurate records. In this role, you will be responsible for drawing blood samples and supervising the activities of other personnel in the test barn. Furthermore, you will supervise pre-race activities such as blood gas testing and closely observe the horses to determine their fitness for racing. The position also involves maintaining the chain of custody for both the horses and the samples collected. Adhering to the rules, policies, and procedures set by the PA Racing Commission is of utmost importance in order to uphold the integrity of the racing industry and ensure the welfare of the horses.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Part-time employment. Standby position and works on an as-needed basis.
(Saturday, Monday, Tuesday) 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM; (Sunday) 4:00 PM - 11:00 PM.
Work schedule is vendor controlled and is determined by the racing schedule.
Salary: This position is per diem; the daily rate of pay is $400.00.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.
Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
Post Employment Requirement:
If the employee is not licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Pennsylvania, he/she must obtain Pennsylvania licensure within twelve (12) months of being hired.
