Urine Cystinuria
We do not provide kits. Please collect the sample following the sample collection and shipping instructions before ordering a test.
This test looks for the presence of cystine, ornithine, lysine, and arginine (COLA) in the urine through a quantitative LCMS test. Values obtained are normalized to urinary creatinine values. Cystine values for dogs that are higher than 179 nmol/mg or total COLA values higher than 700 nmol/mg show a high risk for forming urinary stones. Cystinuria is not as common in cats and standard values are not established yet. Reference intervals for cats are currently being investigated.
Stranguria, hematuria, urinary blockage, bladder and kidney stones. Mostly in males.
Depends on the type of cystinuria - autosomal recessive or incomplete dominant - often sex-limited.
Negative - normal Borderline - mildly elevate cystine or COLA levels compared to normal/negative samples. Risk of stone formation is unknown. Positive - elevated urine cystine and/or COLA levels. Risk of cystine stone formation
